Musco-Skeletal Bodywork - The Bowen Technique
Gentle musco-skeletal bodywork, that addresses the whole body. By rebalancing the body and releasing tension, function is restored and pain eliminated.
The Bowen Technique focuses on treating the whole person rather than only a specific symptom. The aim is to bring the body back in to balance so that it can function at its optimum. Initial appointments are an hour, thereafter 45 minutes unless longer is required.
We are experienced in treating many conditions, but specialise in:
• Back and hip pain
• Shoulder problems including frozen shoulders, rotator cuff injuries and bursitis
• Forearm nerve pain. Weakness and/or numbness in the arms and hands
• Neck pain, whiplash, headaches and migraines
• Plantar Fasciitis and foot pain
• Knee pain and ankle sprains
• Post operative rehabilitation, especially knees, hips, shoulders
• Colic in infants
Patients with Fibromyalgia, MS, ME and Parkinsons and other neurological diseases can gain relief from their symptoms as the body relaxes and neurological pathways are stimulated. The duration of the relief will depend on the severity of the condition and the frequency of treatment.
Sports injuries and improving postural alignment are also areas of particular interest.
I will recommend that Bowen is not mixed with other therapies in the initial stages of treatment as both you and I need to know how you are responding as it will guide my next course of action. By mixing it with other therapies we will have no clear picture of what is going on. Medical prescriptions should be continued as usual.
In the initial stages appointments are usually 7 days apart. Only on rare occasions or in instances of acute injuries do I treat more frequently. The time between appointments will lengthen as your condition improves. For some patients a maintenance programme of one treatment every 1-3 months will be recommended to ensure you remain in optimum form.
Whilst my primary therapy remains The Bowen Technique due to efficacy, other therapies may be used as part of the overall course of treatment, if I feel they are necessary to allow you to return to optimum health. This could include sports massage, myofascial release, trigger point therapy, posture analysis, structural integration, and exercises. I also specialise in kinesiology taping for rehabilitation.
If a specific exercise would be beneficial to your recovery this will be demonstrated and supervised to ensure you are doing it correctly and effectively.
After a course of Bowen you will become much more aware of your body and how is it functioning. This will allow you to take appropriate action more quickly and so avoid pain in the future.
